Blaze Festival of Hope!

Blaze has recently been commissioned to deliver five youth led festivals across the North West as part of the Curious Minds Hope Streets Project.

Hope Streets is a five year long project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Kick The Dust grants programme. The project will create strategic partnerships between the Heritage and youth sectors in the North West. It aims to improve young peoples involvement in Heritage and this phase of the project is about working across five Heritage sites with specialist festival coordinators to deliver ambitious innovative festivals in:

  • Bolton – Bolton Museum
  • Carlisle – Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery
  • Lancashire – Gawthorpe Hall and Clitheroe Castle
  • Sefton – The Atkinson
  • West Cheshire – Cheshire West and Chester Museum Service

With all of our experience creating youth led festivals and ongoing partnership with the Harris we have been tasked with ensuring the festivals of Hope are genuinely driven by young people, showcasing the amazing things that can happen when you empower young people to use their voice.

The project is all about making change in the way that museums and heritage sites engage with and truly embed young people’s decision making into the way they work. Each heritage site will collaborate with a Blaze youth-led expert to deliver lasting transformational change.

Our Programme Producer Hannah is working closely with the Festival coordinators and Blaze Young Producers in each site to develop dynamic and engaging festivals that explore and embed themes of hope. We are so excited to see what each group will come up with that responds to their local heritage and the skills, connections and life changing experiences they will have along the way.

The Blaze Festival of Hope will be shaped by Young Producers from conception to completion, making decisions on everything from programming to marketing and logistics. We don’t know what they will look and feel like yet, but we do know that they will happen in July 2020. Keep your eyes peeled for more information soon!

If you are a young person based in any of the five festival sites please follow @blazearts_ and @Hopestreets for updates or email hannah@blazeonline.org.uk to find out how you can get involved!
