The Big Game
Art meets sport as teams of players competed in the Big Game for the second year running.
Members of Sparks and Fusion 1318 youth theatre, with help from artist Tom Russotti from the Institute of Aesthletics, New York, created new games, and lots of drama, which unfolded on and off the sports ground, culminating in a day-long nonsensical spectacle of madness and mayhem. Prior to the Opening Ceremony, the Big Game Alternative Torch travelled via a variety of transportation means from Nelson to Oswaldtwistle, only to be unwittingly stolen during the Closing Ceremony, then going on to make mysterious appearances at Blaze events later on in the summer.

The Big Game 2011 was officially part of the Olympic Open Weekend but will not go down in sporting history.
