My name is Emily Barron and I have a great passion for the performing arts and being as creative as I can. I am studying Drama, Media, English Literature and History at Burnley College with the hope to move onto university to study Performing Arts. My hope is to become a drama teacher or drama/youth worker. I want to make a difference to people’s lives and inspire people. I love to act silly, laugh and have fun! I try to always be positive and I would say I am a very warm, giggly person (sometimes a bit too giggly).
In my IGNITE job as Urban Culture Jam Co-Ordinator I will be working closely with Manchester based arts company Spearfish and the staff at Clayton-Le-Moors Youth Centre. My role is to assist and co-ordinate the creation of the Urban Culture Jam – a small festival which covers all the Urban Arts and includes many amazing performances, from skateboarding to free running. I want to make the Urban Culture Jam a success and something to be proud of helping to create. I want to look back at the end of my placement and think “I did it!”
I’m also a Blaze Festival Producer, through which I hope to gain experience working in a team, a team with people I have never met before. I want to see how we all work together, how different ideas can be collaborated on together. In the future it will help me feel comfortable working with groups of new people and creating something new and youth-orientated
Working within the arts is my dream job, having an oppurtunity to work within the arts only at 17 years old is one big goal! Hopefully once I have had the experience I believe other employers will notice my passion and it will help me get further jobs. Not only that, it will also help my current college work because of all the new skills I will be learning, and it may even help me get into university! I think my IGNITE job and my experience with Blaze will play a massive part in building my confidence and ability to meet and talk to new people in the future.
