The opportunity to be part of the Blaze Festival team really was a unique one! Being part of Blaze has allowed me to explore working with community groups and artists, and has helped me to grow both personally and with my chosen career path. I have just started at The University of Brighton studying Visual Arts with Performance and have just got back from 3 months in New York teaching Drama at the Fresh Air Fund Camps and without Blaze playing a part in helping me grow I don’t think either would have been possible.
As well as Blaze I am part of Tate Collective– a group of young working in and around Tate Liverpool Art gallery. Our last projects were “Curiouser and Curiouser”-an immersive theatre event based on and performed in the Alice in Wonderland exhibition in collaboration with Punch Drunk Theatre Company and Cut to the Chase Productions and “Glam!”- a one night exclusive event with fashion, photography, music dance and glitter.
I was also a lead puppeteer of a 10ft ghost puppet in Liverpool Lantern Companies Halloween Carnival and I’ve done work placement with FACT, Unity Theatre, and Liverpool Tate. I’ve been volunteering with Movema (a Liverpool based world Dance company) for 3 1/2 years and through them have volunteered at Africa Oye festival, Chinese New year, Black history month-Sankofa days festival and have danced in Brouhaha Carnival. It’s been an amazing experience to be able to work with people from different backgrounds and experience a wide range of different cultures and people.
