I’m at Liverpool doing Art Foundation with the hope of applying to Brighton University to study Visual Arts with Performance.
Over the last 4 years in have been involved in some amazing projects and met some amazing people along the way. I was a lead puppeteer of a 10ft ghost puppet in Liverpool Lantern Companies Halloween Carnival and I’ve done work placement with FACT, Unity Theatre, and Liverpool Tate. I have been volunteering with Movema (a Liverpool based world Dance company) for 3 1/2 years and through them have volunteered at Africa Oye festival, Chinese New year, Black history month-Sankofa days festival and have danced in Brouhaha Carnival. It’s been an amazing experience to be able to work with people from different background and experience a wide range of different cultures and people.
Tate Collective is my other project I am heavily involved in – a group of young people of all ages and background with one shared interest-the love of art. Our last project was in collaboration with Punch Drunk Theatre Company and Cut to the Chase Productions to put on a one-night immersive theatre event based on and performed in the Alice in Wonderland exhibition. It was insane; I loved every minute from making the set, finding the props, planning the night, advertising and performing as the mad hatter on the night.
The opportunity to be part of the Blaze Festival team really is a unique one! To be able to work with young people with different talents and skills who are passionate about The Arts is one that I didn’t want to miss out on. I really want to get as much out of working on Blaze Festival as possible. Being part of Blaze will allow me to explore working with community groups and artists even more, and will help me with decisions about my future and career choices as well as with my application for University.
