This is the first round of auditions to find talented people aged between 13 to 19 years to be part of the Boom Bike Big Band.
The Boom Bike is the brainchild of Ulverston-based artist and musician, Dan Fox. Consisting of a pedal and solar-powered mobile sound system, the multifunctional device, mounted on a bike, includes inputs for microphones and other external devices such as mp3 players, mobiles phones, laptops, musical instruments and DJ decks.
Dan has now teamed up with Morecambe-based community organisation to create a band that will accompany the bike and perform at Blaze’s summer events, taking place at various locations across Lancashire between July to September.
The band is recruiting for four new members, including two musicians of any instrument, including vocalists, MC’s and Beatboxers and two physical performers with skills in anything from dance, free-running and acrobatics to BMXing or skateboarding. Performers should be able improvise and work well within an ensemble and will be encouraged to come up with creative and innovative ideas.
Ashley Murphy, project manager and musician from More Music, said: This is a really new and interesting project that I’m excited to be part of, it’s not often you get to write and perform in a group that has its own mobile sound system on a bike! I also think it’s a great opportunity for young musicians and performers to work with professionals”
Sara Domville, Blaze programme manager, added: “The Boom Bike was developed last year and this year’s addition of the Big Band will be fantastic. We are on the lookout for unique young performers who can add their own personality and vibrancy to the Boom Bike Big Band experience and we’re looking forward to showcasing at the many events we have planned this summer.”
