Making Games with the Young Producers posted by Will

As Jack said in his last blog post, games design is “a tricky business”. It’s tricky because there are so many considerations: the story, the visuals, the gameplay, the players and how they all work together to create a fun and entertaining experience.

We at Mobile Pie are working alongside this fantastic group of Young Producers throughout the process of creating an innovative location aware interactive experience. We hope to tool them up with the skills they need to be games designers, producers or writers, whilst they bring new and exciting ideas and challenges.

This is an entirely new experience for Mobile Pie; we’ve designed games for big brands and prestigious videogames companies and worked with other veteran game designers, but never have we seen such a talented young group, from writers to musicians and artists, all of whom are exploding with talent and passion.

Last week I met face to face with the young producers for the first time (they’d already grilled my credentials in a Skype interview) and yesterday we caught up again. The concept has come a long way since when we first pitched it.; the YPs have really picked up the idea and run with it, shaping it and making it their own.

We’re all very excited to see where this goes. It’s a cutting edge approach to collaboration and the creative process, encompassing some of the newest and oldest forms of art. Whatever the group produce will surely be groundbreaking and revolutionary as well as a fantastic journey for us all and when you see it, for you too.
